Christmas shopping, Christmas decoration, son’s Birthday, social commitments at work and school, high shopping bills, high energy bills, husband away and the list goes on. December is usually the month I feel under most stress and I know I am not alone. Not a good thing you would say? Not necessarily! According to scientist, stress is a burst of energy that basically advise you on what to do. In small doses, stress has many advantages. It can help you to meet daily challenges and motivates you to reach your goals. In fact, stress can help you accomplish tasks more efficiently. It can even boost memory. Looking at it that way I suppose that a healthy dose of stress is actually going to help me this month to multitask. So that begs the question; what is a healthy dose?
The negative side effects of stress:
When you are having one of the following symptoms you will have to start rethinking things in my opinion:
• The Inability to concentrate or complete tasks
• Get sick more often
• Body aches
• Other illnesses like autoimmune diseases flare up
• Headaches
• Irritable
• Trouble falling sleeping or staying awake
• Headaches
• Irritability
• Trouble falling asleep or staying awake
• Changes in appetite
• More angry or anxious than usual (1)
Awareness
Ticking a few boxes already in the list above makes me realise that I now have to take a step back.
So, what to do? I have now started making to-do lists (I have already quite an impressive list of lists!), I am looking after my diet even more, am taking regular breaks with a cup of herbal tea (highly recommend camomile) and I have booked an appointment with my lovely ‘anti-stress angel’/therapist at Koorana. I am also a true believer in the power of exercise, in my case Pilates and Yoga. It makes a huge difference to refocus my awareness in my Pilates poses and especially my breathing. If you haven’t done so give one (or more) of these things a go. Taking charge is a wonderful feeling!
So now having taken a step back and having a small and healthy dose of stress I am ready to start enjoying December! For me this is the month of reflexion, awareness and sharing and wanted to start by sharing these thoughts with you! Have a fantastic month and a wonderful Christmas.
